Every Black woman deserves to live safely, freely, and fully. Yet across the United States, including right here in Syracuse, too many of our stories end in silence, cut short by violence, neglect, or indifference.

The Black Femicide in Syracuse Project was born out of necessity to honor the lives of Black women and girls lost to gender-based violence, to demand justice, and to build collective memory where media and institutions often fall short.

This project aims to document, uplift, and remember the lives of our sisters. It is a call to action and a form of resistance: we will not be erased. We know this violence isn’t always physical. It can show up as institutional neglect, medical racism, domestic violence, harassment, or even silence in the face of our pain.

We’re inviting readers to share your stories, memories, or experiences. Whether you’ve lost someone, survived violence, or want to help us remember a name—this space is for you. Your voice is powerful. Your truth matters.

All submissions can be anonymous.

Together, we remember. Together, we resist.
